$1,200.00 USD

I understand the study group is a significant and challenging commitment, and I will do my best to participate fully.

I understand the program is an average of four to five hours each week for six weeks, watching videos, reading articles, book excerpts, and academic papers, reflecting on my experience, and participating in weekly calls.

If you can't commit to fully participating, please wait to register until you can. Nerdy Movementer's experience is affected by the participation of other people in the program. We will offer the study group again.

If you are registering your organization's staff, please share the info above with them and this page so they can decide if they want to participate. It impacts the experience of other participants if people are told they "must" sign up and then don't do the self-paced work.

We're a Nerdy Movement Study Group

We’re a Nerdy Movement Study Group is the only program of its kind that helps you use evidence-based methods to be more effective at recruiting, mobilizing, and retaining members, volunteers and activists.

You’ll learn:

  • how to make the recruitment and retention of members or volunteers more effective,

  • how to make it more likely that teams produce excellent work, get stronger over time and contribute to the growth and learning of team members,

  • how to increase people's commitment, leadership capacity, and ability to act in the face of uncertainty, and

  • other practices that develop leaders and build the power of your organization.

The program consists of nine components.

  • An online course with six weekly modules that contain over 20 individual written or video¹ lessons. Each module requires two to three hours to complete and includes many hours of optional and supplementary audio, written, and video content if you want to go deeper into a specific area. You will have lifetime access to the course content when you enroll.
  • Quizzes, activities, and templates to help you retain what you are learning and apply the lessons to your work right away. You will have lifetime access to help you implement what you learn in this program.
  • Six weekly two-hour video calls to discuss and practice what you are learning with other organizers.
  • A learning circle with two other people to discuss the content and practice what you are learning.
  • A 1:1 call with the instructor to support you in applying what you learned.
  • A private Facebook group and Slack to ask questions and get answers from a global cross-movement community of people like you.
  • A bonus orientation call to meet other people in the study group and get tips on making the most of your experience.
  • Bonus weekly study halls to help you focus as you work through the content.
  • Bonus calls to reconnect and build skills after the program.

How can I convince my boss to pay for this?

You might tell your boss that you’ll apply what you learn directly to your job and tell them which of your organization’s goals this course will help you accomplish. Focus on the outcomes of the course instead of the process.

You know your boss better than we do, but we made a memo for you to edit and share.

I still have questions.

What People Are Saying

The Nerdy Movement Study Group was incredibly helpful in leveling up my organizing. Being able to think through how the material applied to my own work with others in the program allowed me to actually start utilizing the different tools and strategies right away. I joined the study group right as I was going through a relaunch process of a team and I used many of the skills and tools we learned in the group and the difference in the outcome was clear. People were more engaged, motivated and committed to the work and I felt more confident in leading the team. I would recommend to any organizer who wants to level up their organizing practice in a data-driven way.

Emily Kaplan

As a data driven organizer, I am always wanted to gain insight into best practices and how to best make them fit within the organization I am currently with. I felt after each session, inspired to create items and retool our programs, in ways that I know I wouldn't have been able to without the knowledge given. Also, I am glad to have ongoing access to this information, so now I can train up others in best practices as well.

Michelle Wilson

Taking this course was like a series of lightbulbs going off in my head. At each point it gave me tools to make a stronger more powerful team moving campaigns forward.

Aasiya Versi

I came into this study group feeling honestly overwhelmed and insecure about my ability to lead and structure teams for success. I'm leaving the study group with so much clarity on why teams I've been a part of have often felt stuck, and what I can do to better maximize their effectiveness and help them thrive. This study group has given me an entire toolkit of frameworks, language, theory, and practical guides that I'm confident I'm going to be returning to for years to come.
